Kutani Ware Maneki Neko – Matte Glaze Lucky Cat

Made in Komatsu, Ishikawa, this small maneki neko is finished with an original matte glaze developed by Miyasou Seitosho.

Maneki neko, often called a “lucky cat,” has long been displayed in Japanese homes and businesses as a symbol of welcome and good fortune. Miyasou’s version keeps the familiar shape of the traditional figure while giving it a simple, contemporary appearance through its smooth matte finish and rich color.

Small enough to fit on a desk, shelf, or entryway table, each cat adds a bright accent without taking up much space. It is available with either its right or left paw raised, depending on what you would like it to welcome into your space.

Paw Variations

The right-paw and left-paw styles are made using different molds, so their facial features and expressions also vary slightly. When choosing your maneki neko, you may notice differences in the shape of the eyes, mouth, and overall expression in addition to the raised paw.

About the Maker

Miyasou Seitosho is a ceramic manufacturer based in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, an area known for the production of Kutani ware.

For more than 100 years, the studio has specialized in making ceramic forms that are later decorated by Kutani painters. Today, Miyasou continues this tradition while developing its own colors, glazes, and contemporary ceramic pieces.

Its original matte glaze incorporates residual clay from locally sourced Hanasaka pottery stone, one of the materials traditionally used to produce Kutani ware. The slightly textured, non-glossy finish gives the familiar maneki neko form a fresh and modern character.

Care and Important Notes

Each piece is made and finished by hand. Slight variations in color, glaze, texture, expression, shape, and size are natural characteristics of the production process and make each maneki neko unique.

Small marks, iron spots, pinholes, glaze irregularities, or differences in color may occasionally appear during firing. These are not considered defects.

Handle with care. Ceramic may chip or break if dropped or struck against a hard surface.

To clean, gently wipe with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scrubbing pads, and prolonged contact with water.

Keep away from small children and pets, as the piece is small and breakable.

Colors and textures may appear slightly different depending on lighting and screen settings.
